HISTORY: Formed in 2000, the Urban Investment Group was the first investment effort at a major investment bank that focused on the U.S urban market. Since 2000, the executive leadership at Goldman Sachs supported the growth of the UIG business to invest in companies operated or owned by ethnic minorities, and urban real estate development projects. Through its investments, UIG has demonstrated the viability of the “double bottom line” for institutional capital by investing in companies and projects that produced strong financial results and had a positive social impact.
